As yet another hostel reservation reached its end, I decided to venture beyond Tokyo for my first trip into the mountains. Navigating the trains on short notice meant I had to leave Hermes locked up in the city, but it seems I’ll be doing enough hiking and can even rent a bike out here in nikko that I will do fine. Hopefully Hermes will forgive me.
I got here late, but the surrounding area will be all the more stunning on first sight in the morning over a kindly provided breakfast by my hostel. Nikko is a world Heritage site, full of beautiful shrines and waterfalls. Out here in the mountains about three hours’ train ride north of Tokyo, temperatures have dropped drastically, down to about 45 or 50 at night. It’s a good opportunity to test out my layers and gear as well.
